HD TV THE BEST TODAY

Households all across the United Kingdom are swearing by the platform of HD TV today. For once, it gets them picture quality as they had never before experienced in their lives. HD TV has thus been given full thumbs up by critics and commoners alike. Then there are the media buyers who seem to have been a bit disappointed. This is even as advertisers and agencies have got lesser then perfect HD TV picture quality then what they would have liked to expect. None the less, to deal with the same issue, now media buyers can get easy access to a new planning tool. This tool is for the taking on the Television Bureau of Advertising's TVB.org site.

They may thus easily be able to see a list of stations transmitting programs and accordingly place HD TV adverts as such. It was Peggy Green, a leading television buyer at Publicis' Zenith Optimedia Group, who requested for the creation of this Web-based planning tool. This request was made post the 2009 Super Bowl even as she observed that most of the clients were coming up with their adverts in HD TV. Incidentally the 2009 Super Bowl was the first to be broadcast in HDTV. But then looking at the TV Coverage being given on a local level, the HD TV quality picture was spotty at times. The reason behind this is that stations that broadcast the pictures lack special equipments to insert and transmit HDTV ads. For once, this is bound to add more value to the advertiser who is spending that extra dollar and effort in assuring that the ad is made in HD TV format.

TVB Vice President-Communications Gary Belis, spoke of how they have been engaged in the making of the HDTV station planning tool for some time now. In fact, it would be interesting to make note that it is only Disney-owned ABC as of now that has made a serious commitment to HD TV adverts.

Sky plus hd box : Sky plus hd box is a great option for people who enjoy hd quality television. As Sky plus HD box provides HD channels which have great picture quality and sound.

RAILWAY HILL TOPS THE ‘SLOWEST ‘BROADBAND’ LIST

According to the latest figures compiled after surveying one million broadband speed tests in the United Kingdom, the website Top10.com revealed that the average speed in the country is around 6.1 Mega Bytes per second, which is almost 50 times faster than what the residents of Railway Hill in Canterbury, Kent get. The broadband providers in Kent are not able to meet the growing needs of these people.

The latest research revealed that the residents of Railway Hill in Canterbury, Kent get the lowest broadband speeds across the nation. With the average download speed of .13 Megabytes per second, it takes approximately 2 days for the residents to download a movie. Next in line is Tewkesbury Road in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. The residents get an appalling speed of .14 Megabytes per second. This is extremely low speeds and they are not able to meet their video requirements with such speeds. Streaming or downloading videos at this speed becomes almost impossible.

Alex Buttle, the director at Top10.com said that the residents Railway Hill in Canterbury have been living with terriblebroadband speeds which are just partially more than Dail-Up.Now that we’re living in 2011, and given that the people elsewhere in the country are getting download speeds in almost double digits, getting such appalling speeds of .13 Megabytes per second is simply not acceptable. The broadband service providers must do everything possible to rectify the issues, get the internet on these streets up and running at the same level as the rest of the country as soon as possible.

Now Broadband providers may be forced to advertise true speed to the audience

Now consumer may take a sigh of relief as the Advertising watchdog is all set to probe into the internet service providers (ISP’s) claim about their speed and usage limitations.
The watchdog will examine the difference between broadband speed claimed and the actual difference between the speeds that is provided to the customers. The terms of the investigation are expected to be declared by this week.

The Major concern is the much used phrase ‘up to’ a certain Mega Bytes per second, used by the service providers. The advertised broadband speed by far exceeds the actual broadband speed. In a recent survey, Ofcom discovered that the average download speed of the providers is around 5.5 Mega Bytes per second, which is exactly the half of the advertised 11.5 Mega Bytes per second. So the up to covers them up because many service providers say up to 20 MBPS so if any time you get a speed less than 20 they are not concerned as they already use the phrase up to. But now the watchdogs will not let these unethical practices continue.

The probe was a response to the concerns raised by theGovernment and the media regulator Ofcom. The regulator is expected to bring out report next month which says that the speeds that the customers get are considerably less than the speed is advertised by the broadband service providers.Ofcom will mostly advice the ASA that the Broadband providers shall advertise speed only which at least some users across the network are able to get.

iSky gets bigger with " thePlatform" deal

The news comes from thePlatform which announced on Monday evening that it has been selected by New Zealand pay-TV provider, Sky Television. iSky, which is a Sky broadband TV service required backend video management and thePlatform has been selected for the same reason. thePlatform provides a number of services such as catch up movies and TV episodes, Video on demand (VOD), movie and TV episodes rental calculated on pay-per-view basis along with their live streaming channels like CNN, Sky News New Zealand and Sky Sports. Sky subscribers will be able to access all of these services on their existing TV packages.

John Fellet, the CEO for Sky television says the selection of "thePlatform" was made due to their intensive knowledge in the broadband TV sector and also because "thePlatform" will effectively be able to provide the required service to their New Zealand subscribers. Mr. Fellet also added that the new deal gets them closer to their motive of providing seamless entertainment to their customers.

The choice was also in the favor of "thePlatform" as they make use the mpx video format. And the mpx video format increases the flexibility and reliability of the videos making sure that the subscribers get the desired video each time they login to their iSky broadband television. It also gives better viewing in terms of HD videos.

And to make it even better Sky has tied up Internet Service providers like Farmside, Orcon, Slingshot, Xnet, Vodafone, Woosh, WIZwireless and Snap. Their tie up with these ISP's would mean that the customers would be able to enjoy unlimited iSky streaming from their respective ISP provider. It can’t get better now that I watch all the seasons of my favourite TV show friends over my Sky broadband without worrying on my broadband usage. This would just mean unlimited entertainment.

University of Southampton says broadband UK needs higher capacity

Every time I get a letter for an upgrade to my broadband plan, I think can it ever get faster than this? I recently upgraded my broadband to a 30 Mbps and realized how fast it is as compared to my old 20 Mbps. But every time I upgrade my plan I think this is it, I don't think it can ever get faster than this. But University of Southampton strongly believes that broadband UK speeds are less and it can be increased to more than 100 times to the current speeds. That means you and me could be using a broadband speed of a minimum of 3000 MBPS in our home. But this is just their belief till now and their researching day in and out to come up with a technology to be able to transmit speeds that high. For this purpose they have received a bursary of £7.2m from the government.

David Payne, Head of research at Southampton explains the need of the growing research. He says that the Internet is based on the same technology Internet 1.0 right from the time it was launched in the 1980. If you compare the same wired Internet with the wireless mobile technology, they have upgraded to a 4G in just 5 years. This alarms the increasing need to increases broadband capacity. He also added that the information given that fibre optic capacity is infinite is just a myth. He explained that the usage has drastically changed from surfing to video chatting and downloading. The capacity will soon end and we will need a faster technology to make the broadband speed stable. This can also be observed from many ISP who are limiting their bandwidth usage as they cannot handle such high capacity of usage. Thus it is very important to resolve the problem at this stage before it gets bigger.
